STOP. REMEMBER. APPRECIATE.
LAST WEDNESDAY'S message drew from the Psalms to give us a reminder to stop & take a breath in the midst of the busy-ness of this season. Today, as we encounter a few verses from Psalm 139, we are called to remember that none of us are here by accident, and to reflect upon what that says about our God and the love for each of us from before our formation.
PSALM 139:13-16
For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed.
One would be easily understood and forgiven if thoughts came to mind from time to time about why are we here, wondering in some dark hours if there really is any reason we are here. This is nothing if not a completely understandable emotion, for life sometimes DOES seem like it overwhelms us, and with everything going on in the world, do we really matter?
What is beautiful about Advent is that we get permission to take time to reflect upon the truly remarkable truth that, in fact, we ARE here because of nothing more than we are LOVED. We are LOVED so much we were created out of nothing solely because God desires our company. We are LOVED so much that when humanity chose to rebel against God's love and God's guidance our creator realized that left to our own devices there is no way we could or would restore the joy of perfect communion with one another so he sent God's only begotten Son to make things right.
Read carefully again the verses above from the Psalmist...remember and appreciate that no matter our current circumstances this is the season wherein we are reminded of the most tangible and intimate expression of love...Christ our Lord.
Grace and Peace, Lamar
