Keeping the 'Thanks' in Thanksgiving
One of the most annoying things about December is the whole 'Keep Christ in Christmas' campaigns. Yes, I said annoying. I feel this way because to act as if anyone can keep Christ out of your Christmas is simply missing the point. I'm not aware of anyone who has the power to keep Christ out of Christmas, and it is our actions that show Christ's presence where we are far more than words that are said or unsaid.
However, I digress. I started out on this idea because I don't recall ever seeing someone start a campaign saying to keep the 'Thanks' in Thanksgiving, and I'm not sure why.
After all, isn't that what Thanksgiving is all about?
Alas, for so many we have allowed Thanksgiving to be about everything but the most important part of that day - the idea of returning thanks.
I don't know what all your holiday will entail, but I know this: If we allow the busyness of the day to interfere with our gratitude; if we allow the food, the family, the football, and the shopping to dominate our day, then we have missed it.
But, here's the kicker: For us, EVERY day is Thanksgiving, for EVERY day we had better be about giving thanks to God for His grace & love, without which we wouldn't draw breath. May we live in such a way that we put the 'Thanks' into every day, not just Thanksgiving.
See You Sunday!
