More than the Weather

I once heard a joke (at least I think it was a joke) that went along the lines of: "I never complain about the weather.  Without it, 90% of our society would never be able to start a conversation."

Ouch.  Like all humor, this line has just enough humor to sting.

As the church, we pray that it is not true for us.  It is our calling as the people of God to know each other well enough that no conversation we have is superficial, but carries with it the richness and depth that comes from sharing our lives with one another.

Take a look around the next time we are in worship together.  What do you know about those with whom you worship?  Do you know the names of those with whom you worship?  Do you know their families?  Would you know them if you ran into them at the store?

Over the next few months, we will be working on providing opportunities for us to work together, strengthening our bonds as the Body of Christ.  Some of these will be really simple, like taking the time to fill out a name tag before you enter the sanctuary.  Others will require more than Sunday.  All will serve to help us live out that calling, the identity we've chosen to be the church.

Don't get me wrong - there's nothing wrong with talking about the weather.  However, let's push and challenge each other to go much deeper by committing to live our lives together, not by talking but by doing.

See you Soon!
