Life Transitions

What's going through your mind 11 days before Christmas?  How much is there to do before Christmas?  How much does your life change this time of the year in anticipation of the day?

As I write to you this morning, I'm thinking about what it may have been like 11 days before the first Christmas.  We know how much things change in the time before the day chosen to commemorate Christ's birth, December 25, for we know it is a set day in our calendars.

But what about 11 days before the first Christmas?  Was life any different for the world then in anticipation of the day?

Christ tells us in the gospels that we will not know the day nor the hour when he will return again.  That's really no different than the first time he came...the only thing the people of God were promised was that a savior would come.

The challenge for the people of God, my friends, now and always, is and has been to live and order our lives in such a way that we are ready for Christ's appearance whenever it may occur.  The question we must always have in front of us is, "How is what I am doing, thinking, or saying preparing for Christ's arrival?"  Another way to look at it is, "Is there anything I would do differently right now if I knew Christ was appearing tomorrow?"

We didn't know the first time, and we won't know the second time.  But our task is still the same - be ready.

Grace and Peace, Lamar
