WHAT THE CHURCH BETTER LEARN FROM ED O AND THE 2019 TIGAHS!
MAN! WHAT A GAME! WHAT A SEASON! WHAT A STORY! HISTORY MADE!
The 2019 LSU Tigers will go down in history as one of the best single-season teams in the history of college football. What Coach O and Joe Burreaux and crew did has to be respected, admired, and appreciated, whether you are a fan of the Bayou Bengals or some other team (like the only FBS team currently on a six-game bowl winning streak - a team also based in Louisiana.)
Here's a question related to the 2019 Tigers that can help put this whole experience in perspective: What if Coach O had not dared to take a chance on re-engineering the entirety of the LSU offense by bringing in a kid by the name of Joe Brady to direct the passing game?
I seriously doubt any fan of the TIGAHS would have liked another season of what some refer to as the "ground-and-pound" meat-and-potatoes stale offenses from Baton Rouge over the last 10-15 years. If I had to guess, I don't think we would have seen 60 TD's from #9; I don't think we would have seen a perfect regular season, nor an SEC championship or a CFP for the ages.
Did Coach O or any one else involved see 15-0 in as dominant a fashion as this season was when the change to the coaching staff and offensive philosophy was implemented last spring? Anyone who tells you they did is kidding themselves. Was there HOPE? Heck yes.
Reflecting on the events of Monday night and the season as a whole, I can't help but wonder if there is not a lesson in all this for our - or any - congregation.
Let's remember that over the previous ten years (2009 - 2018) LSU had a 75.2% winning percentage, so it is not like they were not a successful team.
But, yet, in spite of that sterling record of success, Coach O had the faith to know something had to change if this program was ever going to fulfill what many saw as potential for greatness. And so he made a change.
And it paid off big-time - much to the delight of many of you and TIGAH fans everywhere.
In light of the celebratory mood across our great state today, let us resolve to take on the mentality of the coach of our national champions - the mentality that says to us all that you have to have the mindset that allows for massive change because the desire is there for more.
This desire for more had darn well better be stronger than the desire for more of the same.
After all, we worship a guy who said, "Behold, I make all things new." What 'new' are we missing out on because we are too afraid to change and are willing to settle for more of the same?
How many of us wish that Coach O had not changed the offense?
How many of us wish that the church would never change anything and do things they way they have always been done?
Congratulations, Coach Orgeron and the LSU Tigers - you made our state proud!
Thank you, Coach Orgeron, for the reminder that great things can come when you have the courage to change, especially big, bold change that guarantees no result but acknowledges things can never stay the same forever.
Grace & Peace,
Lamar
