A Minor Inconvenience
North Cross went back to the stone ages on Tuesday and may be there for a couple of more days. Three little letters - DNS.
It started about 9:00 on Tuesday morning, it seems, although we didn't become aware of it until around lunchtime, when someone called and said they hadn't gotten a response from me on an important e-mail.
While we are working to get our DNS issues solved, it has been a most interesting time around our office. To realize that in the short span of a decade (give or take) much of our approach to ministry is dependent on an eight-to-twelve-digit number being pointed in the right direction is quite instructional, for it is reminder that while the church's mission (To Make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World) is unchanging, the manner in which we do it is always open to change and adaptation.
The question is not whether or not we think it is important to answer the call to discipleship, or to answer the call to be the light of Christ to all of creation in thought, word, and deed - nay, the question is, "Are we willing to do whatever it takes, no matter the obstacles that may come our way (including pesky internet issues) to make sure that everyone we encounter has been given the grace of God through Jesus Christ our Lord?"
Yeah, it's a major inconvenience to have to work through these issues for up to 72 hours. But it will NOT keep us from our work; for NOTHING can separate us from the love of God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
It would be easy to find excuses to not do things because of this temporary outage; but I know better. We are not a church, or a people, of excuses; we are people who know the work we do is not ours, but God's, and God will make sure we have been given everything we need to fulfill God's will.
Praise be to God! (and I'll see you tonight!)
Grace and Peace, Lamar
